Identify potential root causes of your difficulties and work towards lasting change with personalised therapy sessions tailored to your unique needs and goals. There are several stages to this process
We will work together to identify your patterns of behaviour, thinking, personality traits, and emotional functioning to build a picture of your difficulties called a formulation. This formulation informs the type and duration of evidence based interventions that are best suited to your needs. Click below to find our more about formulation in clinical psychology
Once we have built awareness of how pre-existing responses inform current functioning we can set therapeutic goals together and work towards these in our sessions. Sometimes this involves Psychoeducation where you will learn about the psychological processes underpinning your experience. You may be signposted to educational resources to build your knowledge to manage the psychological distress you feel and improve your well-being. .
Sessions often include developing coping strategies including self-care and emotional regulation strategies. Psychological Interventions are where evidence based therapies are introduced to address the difficulties encountered and improve psychological function.
Ending therapy can be a significant part of the therapeutic process and should not come as a surprise. We will discuss at the start of our work together how many sessions will likely be required and review and monitor this together. Therapy may end because you have achieved the goals you aimed to achieve. Alternatively you may feel you need a break from the process to consolidate what you have learned or do not feel the time is right for you to continue for a variety of reasons. Remember, ending therapy is a personal decision and should be based on your individual needs and circumstances.
I encourage clients to feel confident approaching the subject of finishing therapy so I can support them to achieve the best outcome to maintain their progress without regular sessions. For some clients ending therapy can be difficult even an emotionally painful process, even when you are satisfied it is the right decision. Openly discussing these big emotions and planning for therapy ending can help process difficult or ambivalent feelings of loss, and develop a plan for maintaining the progress you’ve made.
Some of the difficulties I can help with are listed below, please note this is not an exhaustive list just a flavour of some of the difficulties people seek support with. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a free 20 minute introductory call
